In Conversation With Podz
Director Podz opens up about various stages of his career, notably discussing the long take shot last summer for an episode of TV series 19-2, and sharing insights on his upcoming feature, KING DAVE, an 80-minute sequence shot. His television work on series like 19-2, TU M’AIMES-TU?, LES BOUGON: C’EST AUSSI CA LA VIE II, MINUIT, LE SOIR, AU NOM DE LA LOI et 3 X RIEN has established Daniel Grou, alias Podz, as one of the most gifted filmmakers of his generation, a talent which has also been appropriated for series on English-speaking networks (THE HUNGER, DROP THE BEAT, VAMPIRE HIGH and BIG WOLF ON CAMPUS III). Nominated for both the Jutra and Genie awards, he won the Gemeaux seven times, including the special Jean-Besré prize for the second season of MINUIT, LE SOIR. He realized his ultimate cinematic ambition with his debut feature LES SEPT JOURS DE TALION, which had its world premiere at Sundance. He then shot the TV series XANADU in France before directing his second fiction feature, 10 ½, which opened the Festival du nouveau cinema in 2010. In the fall of 2012 he put out L’AFFAIRE DUMONT, a feature inspired by factual, widely-reported events. The next year, he took the helm of the second season of Radio-Canada’s 19-2, garnering the series huge success and 16 nominations at the 2013 Prix Gémeaux. Podz is currently completing his next feature film, MIRACULUM.
