This is it, people. The inspired Quebec indie that’s become one of the most wildly adored films on the 2015 international festival circuit is coming home for its first screening in the country. At the place of its birth, no less — TURBO KID is the first baby of Fantasia’s International Co-Production Market, Frontières. We couldn’t imagine a better kick-off as its madcap creators, RKSS (Roadkill Superstar, AKA François Simard, Anouk Whissell and Yoann-Karl Whissell), have been part of the Fantasia Family for many, many years, both in our audience and on our screens with such beloved shorts as LE BAGMAN: PROFESSION MEURTRIER, TOTAL FURY, NINJA ELIMINATOR and T IS FOR TURBO. That last one led to what eventually became TURBO KID, the supersonically talented trio’s long-awaited feature debut, co-produced by a slew of other long-term Fantasia alumni (Ant Timpson, Jason Eisener, Anne-Marie Gélinas, Stephanie Trepanier, Patrick Ewald…). That’s all good, but what matters most is that TURBO KID is, in a word, a blast.

Funny, inventive, stylish, gory, action-packed, sweet-faced and eccentric to the core, the film stars Munro Chambers, Laurence Leboeuf and, as the supreme mega-villain Zeus, none other than Michael Ironside (also on this year’s Fantasia screen in SYNCHRONICITY and a special retro screening of VISITING HOURS). It exists somewhere between the universes of BMX BANDITS and 1990: THE BRONX WARRIORS. It features an amazing electronic score by Le Matos. It will have you laughing, gasping and cheering from beginning to end. Don’t miss what’s sure to be an insane homecoming party as we explode Team Turbo into the nation.
