Three ("Saam Yan Hang")
“Mr. To packs more genuine entertainment value than what passes for above-average Hollywood action fare these days” - Glen Kenny, NEW YORK TIMES
"Action, timing, character chemistry and psychological intrigue are all synched to perfection" – Maggie Lee, VARIETY
A cop, a crook and a doctor face each other in a showdown, in which bullets show no mercy. Shot in the head, with a bullet lodged in his frontal lobe, and handcuffed to his hospital bed, the criminal has refused an operation that could potentially save his life. He opts to spend his remaining hours taunting his nemesis, the cop (Louis Koo, ELECTION), with useless trivia and some clues about a planned major robbery, and unleashing chaos with other patients in the neurology ward. A conflicted doctor (Vicki Zhao, SHAOLIN SOCCER) must choose between helping the criminal, according to her ethics, or the cop, for the good of society. Meanwhile, the cops are also tracking a mysterious number that could hold a clue to the crook’s other unfinished business activities.
After a three-year sabbatical, maverick director Johnnie To (BREAKING NEWS, DRUG WAR) returns to the action genre with full force! Shooting entirely in a hospital in southern China and without a full script, To is back at the top of his game, creating a sense of loose fun, tense cat-and-mouse and a thrilling climactic shoot-out of the sort that he does so magnificently! Wallace Chung (DRUG WAR) make a strong impression as the charming and diabolic baddie who is always ahead of everyone, Koo is cool as ever as the cop about to lose his patience, and another To regular, Lam Suet, steals every moment he’s on screen.
